New Hope Support Group

The New Hope Support Group was established in 2006 and we are volunteers based primarily in the North West of England. Many of us have visited New Hope multiple times to see first hand how the funds we raise make a real difference to children and families.

Through the funds we raise, we support education that helps break the cycle of poverty and delivers meaningful, long term change for children and families. In addition, we fundraise to support the wider community outside of New Hope Children's centre, to lift families out of poverty and improve their living conditions.

We do not undertake any of the work directly at New Hope. Instead, we focus on fundraising with all work and resources sourced locally, helping to support the local economy and ensure sustainable, community led impact.

Over the last 20 years, we have educated hundreds of children and fundraised for:

  • Original children's centre building

  • Boys dormitory

  • Classrooms

  • Grandparents villages

  • Provision of water in the wider community

  • Medical bills

New Hope Children's Centre & Oakridge School

New Hope Children’s Centre was founded in 2002 by Anne Chege and her late husband, Tyrus. Typically, New Hope is home to around 120 children that call it home. New Hope is located in Uplands, 40km from Nairobi.

Oakridge School was founded 4 years ago by New Hope Chidlren's Centre, in response to concerns around the quality of education that the children were receiving. Oakridge School is situated in the grounds of New Hope Children's Centre and the majority of children from New Hope attend Oakridge (the exceptions would be where children are either too young for school or if they have additional educational needs). Children from the local community, as well as the Grandparents villages also attend Oakridge, so our support now impacts many more children than before.

There are now 240 children attending Oakridge School. It is significantly more expensive to run as no support is received from the Kenyan Government. Of the total cost to run Oakridge School, the New Hope Support Group currently contribute circa 50% although this fluctuates each year.
